“A planted seed you hoped would bloom
our visions don’t always pan out the way we’d really wish them to
and hindsight always is so clear
can’t wish you thought of that its circumstance that truly brought you here”
-Dan Littlefield
Dan Littlefield is a singer-songwriter from California. His music has been described as “a dynamic blend between alternative rock, southern soul, and folk that is exceptionally intimate, poetic, and heartfelt”. Littlefield and his violinist Kristen Lee have quickly become one of the Bay Area’s favorite duos. Littlefield recently released his debut solo album “The Hills We Knew” and has opened up for artists such as Ruth Gerson, Joe Koenig, Travis T. Warren of Blind Melon and several others. His songs “Drifter”, “Awake in the Bed I Lie”, and “Waiting for What” have all been chosen to be featured on Bay Area radio stations.
Littlefield began playing bass guitar at the age of 13 and quickly discovered he had an extraordinary passion for music. But the music would have to wait. Throughout high school, Dan excelled in athletics which left little free time to seriously pursue music. After receiving an athletic scholarship and competing for Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo’s track and field team, a severe injury forced him to give up athletics for good. Feeling lost and confused, he turned to his neglected bass for help. Almost immediately, Littlefield knew that music was the next chapter of his life. He joined his friend Joe Koenig’s band Snaphook as the bass player and toured California with the rock band. They released “Echo Location” in 2004, Littlefield’s first recording with a band. The EP went on to be featured on several compilations featuring up and coming rock bands. Snaphook called it quits in 2005 but Dan was certain music would remain a huge part of his life for the rest of his days.
After living briefly in South America, he returned and began seriously pursing music once again. He played bass for a year with the Americana group Corduroy Jim, where he learned valuable roots rock melodies and rhythmic grooves and in 2009, he put together a band of local friends and started Intrinsic, a pop/rock band in which he sang and played bass. Although the band did not last long, it allowed Littlefield to fully blossom as a music writer and performer. He felt it was time to go solo and create the type of music he was truly feeling in his heart. He began working on his first album named “The Hills We Knew” after the hills of Los Alamos, CA that he would wander through with his late brother Alex Littlefield. Alex was a tremendous influence in Dan’s life and continues to inspire much of the music he creates today.
Once again, Littlefield sought out the help of his good friend Joe Koenig, this time to produce the album. Joe and Dan hit the studio with the intention of doing things “the right way or not at all” and worked closely together for the next six months to achieve the vision they shared for the music. Littlefield not only wrote all the songs for his album but also played guitar, dobro, upright and electric bass, harmonica, and sang the vocals on the album. In December of 2010, he released the album digitally and in January 2011 released the CD. The album represents many things to Littlefield. Mainly, it is a tribute to his father and two half brothers that have passed away. You can find traces of them throughout the album, but in particular the songs “Dogwood”, “Remnants of You”, and “The Hills We Knew.” This album represents Dan’s best effort thus far as a musician and the proudest moment of his musical career. You can find him touring and promoting the album throughout California and beyond.

Hi Amigos!
I just wanted to let you know that I have released a little single of “Never Got Around” for ya to enjoy. There is a version with Kristen playing violin available at littlefield.bandcamp.com. Since CDbaby and itunes won’t let me upload this version, for now I have put an acoustic solo version up on itunes with just me playing (for some reason it will take this version and not the other??). As soon as the issue is resolved I will get that other version up asap. Hoping it won’t take long. I really hope you guys enjoy this one. We had fun making this one and it has really become a lot of folks’ favorite song. Enjoy!
Oct 21 2011
I have released a new single track called “Why Can’t I Run.” It can be found on itunes, Amazon, and my favorite Bandcamp. It’s under “The October Sessions” as I will possibly be releasing a few more tracks under the same EP title soon. I hope you enjoy it! Kristen Lee provided the violin!
Check it out at littlefield.bandcamp.com

Whew!!! The Vintage Festival was a blast! Kristen and I weathered the storm of wind and cold and let the warm crowd carry us home! The crowd was amazing! Even though the wine booths started closing at 5 (an hour into our set) people all stuck around and watched the whole show which was so appreciated. Afterwards, we got to talk to many of the nice folks, sign a few cds, and network a bit. It was a great time.
I’m really excited for this next Thursday, Sept. 29th. We are headed to Pasta Moon in Half Moon Bay to play in their music box!
If you’ve never been here before it is just about the tastiest pasta and Italian food around. Their new music box room is immaculate and a special place to catch live music. We are playing there September 29th from 7-10. Come on out, grab some delicious dinner, and stick around for our set. We’ll be playing mostly originals with a few special covers thrown in. This is also my last fundraiser for awhile. All proceeds will be going to the Cabrillo Education Foundation. I hope to see ya there!
Lastly, I’ve been making the final adjustments to the four songs I’ll be recording soon. I must say, I think they are going to sound pretty darn awesome. I’ll be going back into Rick Sutton’s studio again. I just feel real comfy in that studio and feel it brings out the best in me. We’ll be heading in there Oct 15th and it will probably just be a digital release. If you sign up for my email list I will gladly give ya a free download code! Well, that’s it for now. Hope to see ya at Pasta Moon or a show soon! Take care amigos!
Sep 10 2011
Well last weekend was a blast! The King’s Mountain Art Fair was one of the best shows of my life. We played with a backdrop of giant redwoods and had a nice stage in a beautiful natural amphitheater. We made tons of new friends and it was such a pleasure. Then Sunday came. The event I’ve been planning for months at the Old Princeton Landing was on. We raised $1100 for the Cabrillo Education Foundation and all my musician friends really blew my mind with the talent and energy they brought. Big thanks to Chi McClean, Tony Gibson, Joe Koenig, Lauren Ellis, and Dan Martin & the Noma Rocksteady Band. It really was a special evening.
Speaking of the OPL, I’m very happy to announce that Travis Warren’s new band The LookOut Kids are coming to town to rock! You may know Travis as the new singer for Blind Melon. Travis is a friend of mine and probably the most talented musician I have ever met. He will be at the OPL Nov. 17th and I will be opening up for him. There is also a badass band called Telstar with the bass player from PINK joining in the action as well. It would be a shame for you to miss this show because everyone should witness the unbelievable voice and talent of Travis.
Oct 15th I am headed back into the studio. I have gotten request from many friends to hear some songs in a less produced, more stripped down style (like how my performances are). So I’m heading into the studio to record about four new songs in that fashion. I will be recording acoustic guitar, vox, harmonica, violin, and some very simple percussion. Keepin’ it simple but intimate and live sounding. I’m really looking forward to it and I think its gonna rock!
I have a gig at A Grape in the Fog tonight (Sept. 10th) and one or two just about every weekend for the next month. I’m really excited to play Pasta Moon Sept 29th as well. This will be another fundraiser effort for our schools. Check out the new stage area at www.pastamoon.com Its pretty awesome!
That’s it for now. Hope to see your happy faces soon!
